What is ERIN?

The Eastern Region Injury Network is a network comprised of injury prevention stakeholders in Eastern Ontario whose purpose is to facilitate collaboration and communication in order to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of injury prevention programs in Eastern Ontario.

Why has ERIN been developed?

The Eastern Region Injury Network is the result of a strategic planning exercise undertaken by injury stakeholders in Eastern Ontario in the spring of 2001. The network provides a formalized mechanism by which regional planning and sharing of information occurs. The network works to develop consensus on consistent messages to be used in local programming and to promote the use of best practices and evaluation.

How does ERIN work?

Members of ERIN are individuals, agencies, businesses and groups who are interested in preventing injuries and share the goal of improved health outcomes in our communities. ERIN is supported by a formalized coordinating partnership. The partnership agreement, signed by the Coordinating Partners, outlines the specific responsibilities of the partners to ensure the realization of ERIN’s vision, mission and purpose.

Membership

Membership in the Eastern Region Injury Network is open to anyone interested in preventing injuries and ensuring that communities in Eastern Ontario are safe places to live, work, and play. To become a member of ERIN, and to join our listserv, contact one of the Coordinating Partners.

Current Activities

Coordinating partners develop an operational plan for ERIN for a one to two year period. An annual professional development and networking day, open to all ERIN members, helps to build the capacity of the injury prevention community in Eastern Ontario. Regional injury prevention initiatives, such as the Medicine Clean Out campaign in November 2002, and the Include Safety on Your Shopping List brochure developed in 2003 have as part of their goal to build consensus on key messages and then to disseminate those messages to the broader community. ERIN has facilitated networking/educational meetings for the region’s Early Years Injury and Family Abuse Prevention program staff to assist in collaborative planning. The ERIN listserv facilitates timely sharing of information among all members.
