Our Work
Our Vision
To make Eastern Ontario, a safe place for children
and youth to live, learn, grow and play.
Our Focus
Plan-it Safe is the Child and Youth Injury Prevention
Centre at the Children's
Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The Centre was established
in July of 1997 to encourage a structured and systematic
approach to the prevention of child & adolescent
intentional and unintentional injury in and around
Eastern Ontario.
Plan-it Safe's mission is to increase local capacity,
strengthen public policy, ensure effective programming
and advocate for the creation of safe environments
to reduce the toll injuries take on children and youth
in Eastern Ontario. The Centre works in collaboration
with many of the community partners who deliver injury
prevention programming. It's core competencies are
injury surveillance, research and program evaluation,
consultation on program planning, implementation and
evaluation, advocacy and professional and public education.
Current Priorities Include:
- Local surveillance and effective dissemination
of data
- Enhancing regional injury initiatives through
facilitation of Eastern Region Injury Network (ERIN)
and the provincially funded Early Years Injury Initiative
- Home injuries
- Summer and winter sports and recreational injuries
(e.g., playgrounds, drowning, cycling, skateboarding,
tobogganing and snow-boarding)
- Traffic-related injuries (children and youth
as drivers and passengers)
