Many people have a dream of retiring somewhere warm, with plenty of friends, golf, tennis, and a country club life. Others are looking for that remote location where things are peaceful and tranquil. Some like to retire to exotic destinations or even travel the world.
The good thing is that no matter what type of interests you have or what sort of climates you enjoy, there is a retirement destination for you somewhere. This page will collaborate many ideas on where you can retire.
For retirees who are looking for a warm climate in the USA, the following States are popular destinations: Texas, Arizona, California, and Florida. Retirement communities can be found in abundance in all of these locations.
Other places that are finding their way to the hearts of people looking to retire are the Carolinas, Nevada, Alabama, and even Kentucky.
If you are looking for adventure, mountains, or a cooler climate, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana have become popular retirement destination as well. Skiing, climbing, and enjoying the cooler climate allow people to participate in activities they are accustomed to doing.
For the exotic travel fans out there, many destinations exist for you. If going abroad is your type of thing, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Uruguay are all great Latin countries that are similar, yet distinctly different – than our neighbors in Mexico. Costa Rica may be perhaps the most attractive of all of these destinations as it’s infrastructure and communities most resemble that of North American standards. Nicaragua is behind in this category, but it’s quickly becoming a popular retirement destination for people who are on a more of a limited budget but want the Latin American experience. Panama is bustling if you live in the city, but the outter towns are quite popular as well. For more on offshore living, check out EscapeArtist.com.
Of course, no matter where you decide to retire, you should check out the area with some serious time spent there for due diligence before doing so. Living somewhere is NOT the same as taking a vacation there. Many people learn this the hard way. Living and vacationing are two very different things, and when it’s time to be a resident you’ll find that all the fun things vacationers do are not always things that residents do. I strongly suggest you stay for 3 months somewhere, if possible, before setting up shop and making a permanent move. Renting is a smart option as well – spend some time there and then put down money on a house or condo. It’s best to know all the ins and outs before plunking down your 401 or taking all of our savings to do such a thing. It’s just smart, especially in the far away overseas destinations.
I’d like to hear from you, the readers, where you are planning to retire or where you are retired right now. It’s always fun hearing from my blog’s readers and I enjoy hearing what people call home. Go ahead and post comments at your leisure!
